Horn has been fully serviced and sanitized. Some finish wear and small dents in bell from normal use. I purchased it a couple years ago in hopes of playing it in a local orchestra, but unfortunately due to COVID, I regrettably write that I never got to play it.

If you have been looking for an all-original Elkhart, this is probably the best deal out there on one in such nice condition. Comes with the original Conn hard case which is in amazing condition also. Teeny weeny dings on the bell and a small area of lacquer wear on the inside of the bell near the edge. There is some lacquer wear near the hand grip and mostly up inside of the bell. Cosmetically, I see one faint line on the bell taper due to the removal of a dent. :) Besides, this Elkhart plays phenomenally, so I know that the valves are still good. Don't ask what the "numbers" are because I don't have the equipment for that kind of scientific testing. Speaking of the valves, the horn has WONDERFUL compression. I recently cleaned it by hand, and the valves all work PERFECTLY, although I do not know the last time that it had a professional cleaning. Vintage 1966 Conn 8D H-Series Double French Horn + Hardcase in fully functional ready to play condition. As expected, a number of factors have contributed to continuing Cleveland’s Conn 8D legacy. After hearing the orchestra’s Mahler 7 dress rehearsal, I interviewed Richard King (principal horn), Jesse McCormick (second horn), and Richard Solis (fourth horn, retired). CONN 8D VINTAGE SERIAL NUMBER
This vintage instrument has been well-maintained over the years by its owner, a professional Horn player. The years 1967 to March 1974 (when Conn moved their brass manufacturing to Abilene, Texas), is a period where at least some of the instruments were inferior in quality In March of 1974 an alpha-numeric system was established: The first character of the serial number indicated the decade 'G' for the 1970s, 'H' for the 1980s, etc. Cleveland has stayed the course on Conn 8D’s for the last several decades. Of course the overall range has great consistency of tone, and did I mention the BIG SOUND?!? Oh man, if you need a horn that will cut through anything. This is one terrific horn! It has an ENORMOUS sound to die for! Brilliant overtones in the high register with excellent, rock-solid pitch.
